Solutions Pt 3 amended

Breaking news this week was the falling of the snow and the new measures agreed by Sajid Javid
For those who don’t know him, he is the Home Secretary; a short, Asian man who doesn’t take heed.
The measures will see children as young as 12 imprisoned for carrying a knife
With additional curfews and sanctions on repeat offenders wanting to take a life.

The measures will also see sanctions for those found with weapons at School
With additional bans on social media, but how will they manage this and with what tools?

Police will also have additional powers to carry out stop and search.
In discussions I have had, this, in my opinion is a reactive knee jerk
The measures didn’t include young people being afforded greater opportunities or education
Teaching them self-worth, entrepreneurship, purpose or self preservation

There was no mention of support being offered to families
To help identify needs, create solutions and seek supportive remedies

In the event a child commits a breach, it will hold a custodial sentence of two years,
As a community do you think this is beneficial? do these measures bring hope and comfort your fears?
Why do we not start with young people and make them the centre of our solutions?
Allow them a safe space to project their voice, show their needs and buy into these new resolutions

A change begins within, an emotion that stirs from the depths of one’s heart
We need to see our children as people, not just a statistic or a label and we need biases to depart

Change can only start with an alteration of the narrative, a change of mindset, determination, commitment and willingness to do their best
We need to stop searching for solutions to come from the government, as we all can bring some light to the darkness.

Family support can start off in community gatherings,
We have so much knowledge amongst us, strength can be built through networking
We may not have it financially, but if many only gave a pound
What impact could be achieved in that unity? what support could be provided on the ground?

Right now many young boys are reported as being part of a gang
I just see young men who deserve to grow and have an opportunity to be a man.

I see young mouths with so much knowledge and hidden wisdom, that is as deep as it is vast.
and listening to young people, making them an integral part of the solution would be a good start.
